2008 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The Guadalupe Agriculture and Livestock Fair Association has awarded five scholarships to 2008 area high school graduates.
The scholarships have been awarded for many years. In 2005 a special scholarship was established to honor a dedicated and long time member of the board, Ron Velich. The greatest part of the funds are raised with proceeds from the Boots and Birdies Golf Tournament and the Guadalupe County Barrel Race, both produced by the Fair Association. We also receive funds from the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Wal-Mart and the American Legion.
This is the second year that our Guadalupe County True Women Drill Team has awarded an equine scholarship.
The 2008 winners are:
Brandy Canion, daughter of Rodger and Judy Canion. Brandy was also chosen to be nonimated for the Texas Fairs and Events Education Foundation scholarship program. Brandy will attend Texas A&M University and study agricultural communications.
Amberly Weers, daughter of Gary and Carol Weers, has chosen Texas Lutheran University. She was awarded the True Women Drill Team scholarship.
Ryan Leaf, son of Bill and Shoene Leaf received the Ron Velich Scholarship. He will attend San Antonio College followed by Texas State. Ryan will major in criminal justice, minor i forestry management in pursuit of a career as a game warden.
Other winners are Bradley Reiley, son of Darren and Debra Reiley. Bradley will attend Texas A&M Univeristy and study agriculture systems management and Rachele Herzog, daughter of Randall and Tina Herzog will study education at Blinn Junior College at Brenham.
