he Guadalupe Agricultural Livestock & Fair Association Drill Team, established in January 2002, was organized as part of the Guadalupe Agricultural Livestock & Fair Association (GALFA).

Janice Woods Windle has allowed these ladies to use the title of her book “True Women” as part of their name, as they strive to honor the pioneer spirit of the women who helped settle Seguin, Gonzales, San Marcos and surrounding areas.

The 2008-2009 Drill Team sponsors are Kirby’s Korner Restaurant, Dr. David Jones with The Center for Cancer Care, and Parkview Veterinary Center.

Celebrating six years of hard work and dedication, these ladies continue to volunteer their time and horses to help promote the Guadalupe County Fair and Rodeo. Each drill team member is a member of the Guadalupe County Fair Association. Several of them are Directors.

Combining precision and skill, they perform such maneuvers as the Texas Entry, Double Wedding Ring, the Heart of Texas, Grand Sweep, Figure 8, Echelons, Pinwheel, Inverted Pinwheel, Lace the Boot and the Salute to the Crowd. The drill team members strive to entertain the crowd, and they have a great time doing it.

Their love of horses and riding is evident, having performed at the Lester Meier Rodeos, PRCA Rodeos and the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Adding to that impressive list are the WPRA All Women’s Rodeos for U Go Girl Rodeo Productions. They have also performed at open horse shows for the Alamo Area Youth Horse Association, Alamo Dressage Association, and Randolph Air Force Base. They have won numerous awards in many area parades. As if that’s not enough, the True Women Drill team participated in an independent film in the Austin & Lockhart area. Team members support breast cancer awareness through the national “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” campaign.

The drill team members are professional women coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, such as careers in banking, accounting, teaching, physical therapy, speech therapy, students, medical/dental, insurance, computers, bus drivers, horse trainers and stay-at-home moms. These ladies stay very busy with their careers, family, volunteer work and the drill team.

Each member provides her own horse, equipment, and uniform, as well as incurring all travel expenses. Their only reward is the joy of promoting the fair and entertaining the crowd. If you are interested in having the True Women Drill Team perform for you please contact the Fair office.
