Entries will be accepted and displayed in the Coliseum on a merit basis. Entries will be judged Thursday, Oct. 6. No contestants allowed in the judging area during this time! Public display begins Oct. 6 by 3 p.m. All entries must remain in the Coliseum until Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. Release time is between the hours of 4 & 6 p.m. There will be NO exceptions to this rule. Please refer to the Home Arts Division for additional rules and prizes.

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY ONLY!

Labeling: Provide contestant name, division, category, and brief description for each photo. Preprinted address labels will be gladly accepted (3 per photo entry).

All photographs must have been taken by the participant between the dates of Oct. 1, 2010 and the time of entry.

Each participant may enter up to 6 photos. May be any combination of categories.

Size: Each photograph must be 8"x10". No other sizes will be accepted.

Mounting: All prints must be permanently mounted on PHOTOGRAPHIC MOUNT BOARD or THIN FOAM BOARD no larger than 8"x10". Self-adhesive foam mount board is recommended. NO additional frame or mat.

Please attach Velcro to the back of each mounted photo to display during the fair.

Categories

Adult and Youth (under age 19 and not graduated from high school) divisions for each category. Color, Black & White, Sepia will all compete together in the categories listed below:

  1. People: People; any age, alone or in a group, active or inactive, snap shot or portrait.
  2. Animals: Pets, livestock, show animals, birds, butterflies, wildlife, etc. The animal(s) should be the focus of the photo and not human subjects or nature/scenic.
  3. Still Life: Photography where objects are pre-arranged or composition does not occur naturally.
  4. Natural Landscape: Scenes of natural landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes (sunsets, clouds, etc.) or underwater.
  5. Plant/Flora: Any photo that focuses on the plant or flower structure and not on a scene or landscape.
  6. Elements of Design: Photo that emphasizes a structure more than the surroundings (barns, houses, silos, etc.)
  7. Digital Darkroom: Any photo that has been significantly altered / manipulated / changed to create an effect. These enhancements can occur using the camera or developing process. * Please provide a brief description of the enhancement or change that was done to the image. It is acceptable to provide a 4" x 6" original of image for the judges to better understand what changes took place. Use double stick tape to attach original image to back of mounted 8" x 10" entry.
  8. Details and Macro: Close up and detailed images usually done with special settings or lens.
  9. Night Photography: Photos taken outdoors between dusk and dawn. Generally these photos are achieved by using artificial light or using a long exposure.
  10. Guadalupe County Fair Photos of 2010: May not have already been entered in previous year's photography contest. Submission of your photo(s) in the Fair category grants the Guadalupe County Fair Association rights to unlimited use of the photo(s) in printed and internet publications. Winners will be asked to submit the photo(s) in digital format and sign a permission form.
