Entries will be accepted and displayed in the Coliseum on a merit basis. All entries must remain in the Coliseum until Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. Release time is between the hours of 4 & 6 p.m. There will be NO exceptions to this rule. Please refer to Home Arts Division rules.

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY ONLY!

  • Photos may be taken with film or digital cameras.
  • Labels will be provided.
  • Be prepared to provide Contestant Name, division, school class/grade if youth, Class, Category, and Title for each photo.
  • All photographs must have been taken by the contestant between the dates of October 31, 2008, and the time of entry - EXCEPT for category 10.
  • Each participant may enter up to 10 photos in any combination of categories.
  • Each photograph must be 8" x 10". No other sizes will be accepted.
  • All prints must be permanently mounted on PHOTOGRAPHIC MOUNT BOARD or THIN FOAM BOARD no larger than 8" by 10", without any additional frame or mat. Masonite, photo folders, corrugated cardboard or thin poster board is not acceptable. Double faced tape, glue or rubber cement are discouraged for mounting purposes. Self adhesive foam mount board is recommended.
  • A hanger will be attached to the back of each mounted photo to display during the fair.

CLASSES (COLOR AND BLACK/WHITE CLASS FOR EACH CATEGORY)

Color: true color produced by the camera and conditions at time of shoot.

Black & White: photos must be originally taken in grayscale (does not include antiquing/sepia-tone/hand-tinting)

  1. People: People; any age, alone or in a group, active or inactive, snap shot or portrait.
  2. Domestic Animals: Animal life not found in their wild habitat. (Pets, livestock, show animal, hermit crab, fish in aquarium, etc.)
  3. Wildlife: Animal life found in nature. (Insects, birds, butterflies, deer, fish in pond/river, etc.) Animal Note: The animal(s) should be the focus of the photo and not human subjects or nature/scenic. No harm or injury should be inflicted on the animal in order to acquire the photo.
  4. Still Life: Photography where objects are pre-arranged or composition does not occur naturally.
  5. Natural Landscape: Scenes of natural landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes (sunsets, clouds, etc.) or underwater.
  6. Plant/Flora: Any photo that focuses on the plant or flower structure and not on a scene or landscape.
  7. Architectural: Photo that emphasizes a structure more than the surroundings (barns, houses, silos, etc.)
  8. Humor: Photo that is silly or funny. People, animals, or any combination.
  9. Special Effects/Creative Effects: Any photo that has been altered or manipulated or changed to create an effect. These enhancements can occur using the camera or developing process. Antiquing, hand-tinting, and sepia-tone photos would be entered in this division. * Please provide a brief description of the enhancement or change that was done to the image. It is acceptable to provide a 4" x 6" original of image for the judges to better understand what changes took place. Use double stick tape to attach original image to back of mounted 8" x 10" entry.
  10. Fair Related: Photos taken during the Guadalupe County Fair of 2008 or 2009. May not have already been entered in previous year's photography contest.
